Dog Hero

A quick-thinking family dog may have helped prevent a much worse tragedy during an early morning house fire in Guilderland on Friday.

According to NewsChannel 13, firefighters were called to a home on Ayre Drive shortly after 5:30 a.m. after reports of a fire on the upper floor.

The homeowner told the station that the first sign that something was wrong came when the family dog suddenly ran downstairs. Her son then discovered a small fire in the attic area.

The homeowner told NewsChannel 13 that the fire appeared to be near an air conditioning and electrical component in the attic. While she believes the cause may be electrical, that has not been officially determined.

The homeowner, her son, a family friend, and the family dog all escaped safely. The homeowner's son suffered minor injuries and was taken to the hospital, according to reports.
