"The Intimidator" was to Nascar what the New York Yankees are to baseball. The literal embodiment of the sport. It's hard to believe that it 12 long years ago that we lost Dale Earnhardt at Daytona. His son Dale Jr. is one of the biggest players in the sport, and his Dad's team owner Richard Childress' grandson Austin Dillon had racing in his DNA as well. Dale Earnhardt's famous #3 car is coming back, and Chidress' grandson will be driving it. Dale Earnhardt Jr. said the following in regards to the news in a story on Nascar.com:

“For a kid like Austin. … he drove the “3” dirt racing and in the (Camping World) Truck Series and Nationwide Series. He’s earned the right to run that number as long as he wants.

“It’s not right to deny someone that opportunity. I’m okay with it. I know that may not be how everyone feels, but I’m sure that’s a minority that feels that way. A lot of people will be telling Austin positive things about it.’’

Austin Dillon currently is racing in the Nationwide Series and plans are to move him and the famous #3 his grandfather made famous to the Sprint Cup Series full time for next season.
