When you go on State Street in Downtown Albany, below the New York State Capitol, you’ll see one of the biggest building change its name from the Crowne Plaza to Hilton.

The hotel opened in 1981, originally as a Hilton. It has been owned by a company called Albany Hotel, which is a subsidiary of a Texas-based private equity fund called Lone Star Real Estate Fund. The building will also have a complete, major, multi-million dollar renovation project which will start sometime next year, and hopefully be finished by 2013.

From a story in the Times Union, this will bring hundreds of jobs to Albany, not to mention the business the hotel brings to the Albany area. The name change is expected to happen on December 29. This is the largest hotel in the Albany area.

How do you think the hotel could help out some unemployed people? Maybe it could be some place that you could work.
