Body Found On Indian Ladder Trail The Day It Reopens
The popular Indian Ladder trail at Thacher Park was available for use for the first time since last July - and in less than one day since the reopening - hikers discovered a dead body. A representative for the NYS Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation say that park police and Forest Rangers responded to the scene around 6:42 p.m. Saturday.
According to a report from Newschannel 13, officials found items including an ID, wallet and backpack belonging to Bruce Decker were located at the scene. Decker has been missing since February. There is no word yet on how Decker died.
The popular Indian Ladder Trail reopened Saturday morning for the first time since last July when it was closed for repairs after a hiker was seriously injured by a falling boulder. The trail had been closed for some time amidst concern that it may be too dangerous for casual hikers to use fearing that more loose rocks and boulders could injure more people.
