Annual Strawberry Festival And Art Show Is For Everyone
On Saturday, June 20, between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., one section of Schenectady will be a really fun place to bring your family to, with plenty of stuff for everyone. That’s when many of the local, neighborhood merchants (and more) will be outside on upper Union Street, for the tenth annual Upper Union Street Strawberry Festival And Art Show. There will be strawberries available, but, there will be so much more. This will be the day when you can take a walk around and enjoy live music, or stop by one of the many eateries and grab a bite to eat. Most of these are also independent business owners, which is something that seems to becoming a rarity.
There’ll be plenty of stuff for the kids. They can enjoy making strawberry mosaics. Someone will be making balloon puppets and sculptures for them. There will also be pony rides, face painting, and maybe even a visit from The Smile Monster. Here’s one thing that I think just about every kid will really enjoy - Habitat For Humanity has made super sized Lincoln Logs, so the kids can build a Lincoln Log House on the sidewalk.
People from the Home Furnishings Program will be there. They’ll have a flea market which will go to help to support programs to provide furnishings to low income families.
The festival will have so much more than what I wrote about, and you can hear more about all about it.
I had the chance to talk to Madelyn Thorne from the Upper Union Street Business Improvement District, about the festival. She will be our guest on Capital Region Sunday, which you can hear on Sunday (June 14) from 6:00 a.m. to 6:10 a.m. on 107.7 WGNA. You can also check out the website, which includes a map of the area.
