We are all saddened by the news that our beloved Albany Empire are no more. But no one is more devastated in our eight-year-old son, Ryan. It was heartwrenching when I told him the news. There was an overwhelming sense of loss when we all heard the news that our championship Albany Empire are done. My son, Ryan, is such a huge fan but now he's sad as are we.

I had to call him and tell him the news while he was in the car and I knew he didn't fully understand. I mean none of us still do. He was confused as to why that, all of a sudden, they just up and left. I just explained that we don't know much yet, but arena football in the Capital Region is finished.

I feel that we are all fortunate to even have the team for two years. They have given us an incredible sense of pride and such fun family times. Ryan got swept up in the atmosphere and the accessibility to the players. He felt as if they were his friends and teammates. We even had Ryan's eighth birthday party at an Empire game. He was lucky enough to run out on the field and throw out t-shirts to the crowd.

We will be grateful for the experience with Ryan and the amazing family memories we have made and maybe by some odd chance, they return. Fingers crossed.
