Another restaurant from my childhood is closing its doors. We used to have lunch there when we would visit my dad at work when he was a purchasing agent for Cluett Peabody in Troy.

This restaurant moved from its Troy location to Wolf Road, but had been a staple in the Capital Region for forty-six years. Why is it closing for good?

Scubber’s started back in 1979, when Bernice and her husband Bob opened their first location on River Street in Troy. They were married for 50 years before Bob passed away in April at age 73. According to the Times Union, over the years, their kids, Robert Jr. and Stephanie, pitched in to help with the business while juggling full-time jobs and raising families of their own.

Scubber’s moved to Newton Plaza in Colonie in the early 90s, where it became a favorite spot for Siena College students. After taking a short break from the business, the family opened a location on Wolf Road in 2010. That spot, next to a Dunkin and surrounded by big box stores and hotels, had limited parking, so takeout became the main focus.

Although the restaurant has now closed, Bernice plans to keep the spirit of Scubber’s alive by continuing to sell their popular wing sauce. For now, you can message her through the restaurant’s Facebook page to place an order. She also plans to launch a website soon.
