2 Million Cell Phone Customers’ Personal Data Hacked
We trust that our personal information will be protected with our cell phone provider. It was just announced that a major carrier had two million of its customers' personal information hacked. According to WKBW, a major data breach occurred last week that compromised two million of T-Mobile's cell phone customers. T-Mobile said that hackers took personal information and released a statement to their customers. It said, in part, that they are aware of the breach and are working on fixing the problem.
It did state that on August 20th, hackers gained access to unauthorized information. However, they said that no financial data (including credit card information) or social security numbers were involved. The personal information that was compromised were name, billing zip codes, phone numbers, email addresses and account numbers.
T-Mobile says all affected customers have been or shortly will be notified. For more information about the breach and to read the entire statement, click here.
