The online retail giant is bringing a new distribution center to the Capital Region.

According to a News 10 report, a developer has purchased the land for the new facility in Schodack and work has begun on the property. The new building will be 1 million square feet and Rensselaer County Executive Steve McLaughlin told News 10 the new center should generate around 800 new jobs.

While Amazon brings great job potential to the are, the new Route 9 distribution center has met some opposition from Schodack residents concerned about it's environmental impact. According to News 10 residents tried to fight the facility in the courts with an unsuccessful lawsuit.

Let's hope this all works out for both sides; Amazon and those living in Schodack. Job creation is a good thing, and a business like Amazon setting up shop in the Capitial Region also seems like a positive. On the other side you can also appreciate residents in the area to wanting to protect the community they live in!
