The Old Farmer's Almanac Christmas Forecast for 2024 is here. Will New York get the gift of snow?
Some folks love snow, others love not to see it.
But there is one time when everyone agrees snow is a good thing: having a fresh coat of powder on the ground for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
What Defines A White Christmas?
According to the National Weather Service, "...a white Christmas is officially defined as having at least 1 inch of snow on the ground at 7 am local time Christmas Day."
By definition, it does not take much to make it a white Christmas. So what are the odds we have a White Christmas in the Capital Region?
The Old Farmer's Almanac says it is typically a 50-50 shot every year that Upstate New York will have snow for Christmas.
Will The Capital Region and Upstate New York Have A White Christmas?
The quick answer is unfortunately no. The Old Farmer's Almanac says outside of Northern Maine, the Northeast United States including all of New York will not have a white Christmas.
Bah Humbug! But at 50-50 odds, ya never know. Maybe if you put snow on your Christmas list Santa will deliver!
