Why Do We Kiss at Midnight?

I know it's lame, but I'm looking forward to doing nothing tonight!  I'm gonna go to bed early and sleep in late!  In fact, I wasn't even going to wake up to kiss my hubbie at midnight, until I found out why we are supposed to do just that!

According to English and German folklore, the first person you encounter in a new year sets the tone for the rest of the year... including the nature of the encounter, if you know what I mean!

A proper kiss is about strengthening the ties you wish to maintain in the future.  If a couple celebrating together doesn't take the time to lock lips, it may not bode well for the relationship in the new year!

And, if you happen to be single this evening, there's a superstition that not kissing anyone could mean a year of loneliness!  So pucker up!

But, you'll have to decide if grabbing the sleazy, random, possibly married guy or gal next to you and planting a big one on them at midnight is actually worth the risk!

Either way, I know I'm going to set my alarm for 11:59 just to kiss my baby, cause I certainly want to set myself up for another year of wedded bliss!  (I know, gag, right!?)
