There are two coffee shops of the same name in the Capital Region that have been around for decades. One is located on 3rd Street in Troy and the other is on Lark Street in Albany. They aren't just coffee shops, they are gathering places, eateries, and part of the community. One of them has closed forever.
The Two Daily Grind Coffee Shops Have Been Open For Decades
The Daily Grind in Albany opened in 1976 and The Daily Grind in Troy opened its doors in 1984. Brother and sister Lee and Barrye Cohen, respectively, had become partners in 1980. Barrye had always run the Troy location and her brother managed the Albany location.
The Daily Grind in Troy is Closing
The Daily Grind on 3rd Street in Troy has closed (September 27th) after 38 years. Barrye said that they had some staffing issues and that she was getting older, according to News 10 ABC, so it was time.
What About The Daily Grind in Albany?
The Daily Grind on Lark Street in Albany will remain open. This location has been open for 46 years and owner Lee Cohen has no plans on closing.
