US Helicopter Shot Down-30 Troops Killed
Yesterday was a tragic day for the USA as one of our helicopters was shot down in Afghanistan taking the lives of 30 US troops. It was the deadliest single loss of American life in the 10 years of the war.
The Associated Press reports that the attack occurred during fighting between US forces and insurgents. The American troops killed belonged to the same Navy SEAL team that took out Osama Bin Laden, though none of them were involved in the actual raid.
The fact that these SEALs were once again involved gives speculation that the target was once again a high ranking official that the US and Afghan commandos wanted to take out. This take down of American lives is expected to boost the moral of the Taliban forces. They took the copter down with a Rocket, and the wreckage was spread across the site of attack.
Their deaths are a reminder of the extraordinary sacrifices made by the men and women of our military and their families, including all who have served in Afghanistan.
-President Obama
The attack has resulted in the largest loss of life in the history of SEAL team 6, a team which in considered to be the best of the best. This now holds the record for most American lives lost in a single attack, it surpasses the 2005 attack where 16 troops were killed in a single attack by the Taliban.
