Woman Arrested After Horrific Animal Cruelty Case in Upstate NY
Disgusting: Upstate NY Woman Threw Dog Off Porch
Another sickening case of animal abuse in Upstate New York, and this one out of Montgomery County, has left a dog badly hurt and a community outraged.
According to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, 22-year-old Desiree R. Teater of Fonda, NY, has been arrested and charged with Aggravated Cruelty to Animals, a felony under New York State law.
Dog Suffered Two Fractures
Investigators say that on November 3rd, a Deputy responded to a home on Old Trail Road in the Town of Mohawk after receiving a report of animal cruelty. During a domestic dispute, Teater allegedly threw a dog from a porch onto the ground, causing the animal to suffer two fractures to one of its legs.
The dog’s owner, with the help of responding deputies, was able to get the injured pet to a local animal hospital for medical care.
Teater later admitted to intentionally injuring the dog during an interview at the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office. She was charged and issued an appearance ticket for a later court date before being released.

Our thoughts are with the poor dog recovering from such a cruel act — and with the responders who had to witness it. Let’s hope the courts take this one seriously.
What You Can Do
If you ever witness animal cruelty or believe an animal is in danger, don’t hesitate — report it immediately to local law enforcement, your local SPCA, or other humane agencies.
In 2010, the Albany County Legislature established the Animal Abuser Registry (Local Law K), which is managed by the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society. This registry was designed to protect animals and inform the public.
