Upstate NY Officers Join ‘Sea of Blue’ to Pay Respects for Fallen NYC Hero
A 'sea of blue' turned out for the emotional services of a fallen NYC police officer who was killed in the line of duty last Friday. Among the tens of thousands who showed up, many were officers from the Albany, Troy, and Colonie Police departments. It was a show of solidarity and support for all the men and women who wear blue every day, risking their lives to make the streets safer for our families.
We appreciate you.
See photos below from the emotional trip to NYC made by members of the Albany, Troy, and Colonie Police Departments who paid their respects to a fallen police officer on Friday.
At around 445 am on Friday morning, a bus with its lights on was sitting idle outside of the Albany Police Headquarters on Henry Johnson Blvd. It was an unusual sight at such an early time in the morning, and as I passed it on my way to work, I wondered what was going on.
Later in the day, I learned that the bus was in front of the Albany station waiting on members of the police department to take down to New York City for the funeral service of fallen NYC Police Officer Jason Rivera.
Rivera, 22, was killed along with his NYPD partner Wilbert Mora, 27 when they responded to a call about an argument. Rivera passed away on Friday evening, while Mora succumbed to his wounds on Tuesday.
"Early this morning, over a dozen Albany police officers boarded a bus to NYC and will join thousands of law enforcement officers from around the globe today to pay their respects to NYPD Police Officer Jason Rivera who lost his life last week serving the Harlem community. Our thoughts continue to be with Officer Rivera’s family and all our law enforcement partners at the NYPD. We join the whole law enforcement community in vowing to never forget Officer Rivera’s sacrifice."
