Twin Brothers Have Big Plans to Develop Land Near Rensselaer Train Station
There may be some major development of a large piece of property across from the Albany-Rensselaer Train Station. The Twin brothers who own the property have big plans that they intend on presenting to the city soon.
The Albany-Rensselaer Train Station Could Use Amenities Around it
Twin brothers Bill and Bob Brayton who run Brayton Construction want to tear down the blue storage unit at 11 4th Avenue. They want to build a fifteen million dollar hotel that contains one hundred ten rooms across from the Amtrak train station.
About six years ago the brothers bought nearly two acres and found out they could be zoned for a hotel. The pandemic and other factors delayed their plans but they are hoping the city will give approval.
They also bought three more pieces of property nearby with access to Washington Street. It used to be owned by a solar company that went under.
The Hotel Will Be on the Other Side of the Tracks
The brothers are hoping to build a pedestrian bridge that would connect the hotel to the Herrick Street bridge enabling patrons from the hotel to walk to the train station and vice versa. They would also make the top floor of the hotel a banquet hall. It would allow beautiful views of downtown Albany.
The Amtrak Station is Always Busy
The Albany-Rensselaer Train Station is the eighth busiest Amtrak station in the country. In 2022 six hundred forty thousand three hundred fifty-three people traveled through that train station according to the Albany Business Review.
