There are few road races as storied and historic as the Troy Turkey Trot. It's the 12th oldest road race in America, and the 64th in the world, and it's right here in the Capital Region.

The 79th edition is beginning preparations, and you can also start getting ready for the race.

What to Know About the Race

The race began in 1916, and has grown into an event not just for the Capital Region, but for America. The day includes a 5K, a 10K, a Grade School Mile, a Trot Mile Walk, and even a virtual race.

the race takes place on Thanksgiving day in Downtown Troy, New York. The 10K starts off the day at 8am, followed by the 5K at 10am. Other events are sprinkled in, like costume contests and more.

Registration is Open

On September 9th, Registrations officially opened for all races and volunteer positions at the Troy Turkey Trot. Prices are:

10K

  • September: $35
  • Oct. 1 - Nov. 5: $40
  • Nov. 6 - Nov. 26: $45

5K

  • September: $30
  • Oct. 1 - Nov. 5: $35
  • Nov. 6 - Nov. 26: $40

Grade School Mile and Community Turkey Walk

  • September - Nov. 5: $20
  • Nov. 6 - Nov. 26: $25

Virtual 5K or 10K

  • $30

You can also register for a 10- week Turkey Trot Training Course led by Choice Physical Therapy in Troy, which will help prepare you for either race and build camaraderie. The course costs $54.38 plus fees, and the twice a week group runs will take place on Sunday Mornings at 8:30am and Tuesday evenings at 6pm.
