Geoffrey's Not Ready to Hang Em Up Just Yet

If you're anything like me and you're a child of the '70s, '80s, or '90s, you know few stores could make you lose your mind quite like Toys "R" Us, but apparently, Geoffrey isn't finished with us yet.

Toys "R" Us is making its biggest brick-and-mortar comeback in nearly a decade, announcing plans to open 120 standalone stores across the United States in time for the 2026 holiday season, according to People.com.

What's The News Expansion All About?

The expansion will increase the company's standalone stores in the United States from about 40 stores to 160, which is pretty substantial considering that the company filed for bankruptcy in 2017 and eventually closed its remaining U.S. stores in 2018.

New and planned Toys "R" Us locations in New York include holiday/standalone stores at Tanger Outlets Deer Park on Long Island and Walden Galleria near Buffalo, with The Westchester in White Plains and Woodbury Common Premium Outlets also reported among the expansion locations.

New York State is Getting In On It

Here in the Capital Region, we're still waiting to see if one of the new standalone stores eventually lands closer to Albany.

Toys "R" Us already has a local presence through its smaller shops inside Macy's at Colonie Center and Crossgates Mall, but anyone who remembers the old Toys "R" Us experience knows that's not quite the same.

Basically Disney World Back in the Day

Walking into one of those giant stores as a kid felt like walking into Disney World.

Bike aisle. Video games. Sports Stuff. Action figures. Nerf guns. Nearly a decade after Toys "R" Us disappeared from the American retail landscape, the famous toy store is trying to make a legitimate comeback.

Now the question is: Is there any way we can get a full-sized one back in the Capital Region?
