Clifton Park ‘Snoopy Building’ Getting New Life Ultimately Helping Trade Students
If you grew up around Clifton Park, you probably know the Snoopy Building. Years ago, it was a popular spot for kids heading to orthodontist appointments. Inside the front window sat a giant stuffed Snoopy that was hard to miss. The character is long gone, but the nickname never faded.
Now that familiar building is preparing for a major change.
The two-story split-level from the 1970s is expected to be torn down. In its place, a new multi-story building would be constructed. The project is being planned by Amanda August, owner and CEO of Grasshopper Heating and Cooling, who has already started talking with town officials.
She knows some residents may feel nostalgic about the old building. Still, she says the goal is to create something modern that will better serve the community for years to come.
The new space would become the company’s main headquarters. It would include offices, along with training areas where employees can learn hands-on skills related to heating and cooling, as well as other home services.
Grasshopper has grown quickly over the past decade and now employs more than 70 people in Clifton Park. August says the company plans to keep expanding.
One of the biggest reasons she likes this location is its closeness to Shenendehowa High School. She hopes to partner with the school to introduce students to careers in the skilled trades while they are still in class.
Many home service companies struggle to find workers. August believes this project could help change that by giving local students a clear path to stable jobs close to home.
If all goes as planned, the spot once known for Snoopy could soon be known for shaping the next generation of trades workers.
