Shaker Grad Makes MLB All-Star Team

A Shaker High School graduate from Latham, New York, is having a career year pitching for one of the league's best teams, the Philadelphia Phillies. On Sunday, he received quite an honor: He'll represent the National League in the MLB All-Star Game on July 16th in Texas.

Hoffman attended Shaker High School in Latham, New York, and pitched for the baseball team. He pitched to a 7–0 win-loss record in his junior year. In his senior year, he led Shaker High School to its first Section II Class AA title game since 2002 against town rival Colonie High School.

Career Gets Off to a "Rocky" Start

He debuted with the Colorado Rockies in 2016 and had just a 6.40 ERA in five seasons in Denver. After struggling in the hitter-friendly ballpark in Denver,  Hoffman then spent two seasons with the Cincinnati Reds, where he showed significant improvement.

But the Latham native has found new life in the “City of Brotherly Love.” Hoffman’s coming off a 5-2 2023 season with the Phillies, where he improved his ERA to 2.41 again.

However, Jeff Hoffman's 2024 edition has been by far the best, and his stats are comparable to those of some of the top relievers in baseball.

In 38 appearances, Hoffman has posted a team-best and career-best 1.21 earned run average.  He’s posted a 3-1 record and has notched eight saves despite primarily serving as a set-up man for the Phillies, the team currently holding the best baseball record.

The 2024 MLB All-Star Game will be played Tuesday, July 16, at the Texas Rangers’ Globe Life Field.
