What Are The Mohawk River Boat Tours?
They are a two-hour cruise along the Mohawk River between Locks 7 and 8 aboard a twenty-five-foot tri-toon boat. It is similar to a pontoon boat only larger. There will be a maximum of eight people per boat. The tours leave from Mohawk Harbor.
Where Do The Boat Rides Go?
The Mohawk River Boat Rides travel along the river under different bridges including historic Erie Canal bridges. It travels through the Hamlet of Alplaus on the southeastern corner of Glenville and then through the remains of the historical aqueduct. You will view the high cliffs of Rexford and the rolling hills of Niskayuna and Vischers' Ferry up to Lock 7. This is where the boat turns and you will see the only dam and hydro-plant on the river according to SchenectadyMetroplex.com.
On the way back, you will pass Rivers Casino and see Schenectady's historic Stockade waterfront. Then travel past the isles of Cayugas, Onondagas, Oneidas, Mohawk, and Seneca, which are all named after Indian tribes. Then onto Lock 8 to turn around headed back through Scotia.
Who Is Your Guide on the Mohawk River Boat Rides?
Mohawk River Boat Rides owner and Captain George Kozer is a veteran of the United States Coast Guard. He is an experienced big game fisherman and now a semi-retired business owner who has been living in the Capital Region for the last twenty-five years.
Captain Kozer said,
My top priority is always the safety of my passengers, followed by giving them a fun and historic ride on the Mohawk River.
When Are The Rides and What Times Do They Run?
Tours begin on May 19th and they run Friday, Saturday, and Sunday starting at 11 am, 1:30 pm, and 4 pm until the middle of October. It is $55 per person. You can reserve an entire boat for $440.
