Popular Albany County Bagel Shop Closes After 31 Years
Today is the day that a popular bagel shop, part of a chain, will close its doors forever. This bagel shop has been in this location in Albany County since 1992.
The Bruegger's Bagels location in the Delaware Plaza in Bethlehem has been a staple for thirty-one years. But it is permanently closing today. The Bruegger's Bagels' lease was up and the managers of the plaza are bringing in a new tenant according to the Times Union.
There is no word what will be moving into Bruegger's space but the manager said that it would be "something fresh and new". It will most likely be another food establishment. They hope to announce the new tenant soon.
A worker mentioned their belief that the chain could potentially open a new location in Albany, perhaps along Central Avenue.
Last year, Uncommon Grounds took over the spot at Stuyvesant Plaza in Guilderland, replacing Bruegger's, which had been a fixture for 37 years. This shift coincided with the decision of Different Drummer's Kitchen, a longstanding tenant in the plaza, not to renew its lease, making room for a new retailer.
Bruegger’s still operates stores at Hannaford Plaza in Colonie, Village Square in Colonie, Union Street in Schenectady, Village Plaza in Clifton Park, and Rensselaer County Plaza on Route 4 in East Greenbush.
Founded in 1983 in Troy, Bruegger’s started with a focus on traditional New York City-style boiled bagels and cream cheese sourced from Vermont.
