Pool Shark From Upstate New York Wins National Title and $15K
Upstate New Yor Pool Shark
A pool shark from Upstate New York recently took his billiards prowess into deep waters and beat out over 6000 other players to take home the 2024 APA 8-Ball Classic Pool Championship in Las Vegas.
Congratulations to billiard baller Stephen Sleasman from Saratoga Springs, who was among the nearly 6000 players throughout North America who attempted to qualify for the American Poolplayers Association’s (APA) 8-Ball Classic. After a successful qualification, Sleasman was one of only 1,030 that advanced to the national finals at the Westgate Las Vegas.
Sleasman Wins $15,000
The 8-Ball Classic was held in early May as part of the APA’s Poolplayer Championships, and it featured 12 divisions of competition, drawing more than 3,400 players and nearly $900,000 in prize money.
According to a recent press release, Sleasman "competed in the Yellow Tier of the 8-Ball Classic and received a cash and prize package worth $15,000 and ultimate bragging rights upon returning home to his local poolroom. The 8-Ball Classic featured five individual tiers based on skill level."
Local Sharks Had Plenty of Success
Sleasman is a member of the local APA League in Saratoga Springs, where he plays pool regularly.
According to a Facebook post by the Capital Region APA Pool League, local sharks performed well in Vegas. Including Sleasman, seven Upstate New York pool players finished within the top 20 in various events.
