Police in Rensselaer County are still determining what led to a violent altercation in the Town of Grafton at around 6:40 p.m. on Wednesday.

State Police have planned an 11 a.m. press conference to discuss the incident, but here's what we know now.

What We Know

Here's what we know about Thursday night's deadly shooting from the New York State Police : 

  • On June 18, 2025, at about 6:40 p.m., State Police responded to a home on South Road (County Route 85) in Grafton, NY, for the report of shots fired.
  • On arrival, an individual exited the home armed with a firearm. After a brief standoff, that individual was taken into custody.
  • A search in and around the residence revealed multiple individuals with gunshot wounds.
  • The investigation is ongoing, and there is no threat to the public. South Road (County Route 85) has been closed between Johnson Road and Snyder Road for investigative purposes.

Man Pointed Long Gun at Police

A Sidewinder Photography report states, "A man emerged from the residence holding what appeared to be a long gun. Officers commanded him to drop the weapon, which he ultimately did."

Upon securing the scene, officers discovered multiple victims, including one individual found deceased in the driveway. The source states that a full home search led to the discovery of additional individuals.

26-Year-Old Man Arrested

According to a report from News Channel 13, Joshua Fowler, 26, from Rensselaer County, is being held in jail this morning on a charge of "intentional murder."

Fowler, according to sources, was arrested early this morning on a charge of murder and criminal possession of a weapon.

The report states that police "have not confirmed" if his arrest is connected to the shooting last night on South Road in Grafton.
