I will be one of the millions of Americans that will take to the highways and travel this holiday weekend. I am not happy about the fact that it will cost a lot more than it did last year. I am sure you have noticed the increase in gas prices here in the Capital Region. If you have traveled outside of the area, you have also noticed that prices have gone way up. Now with Memorial Day weekend on the horizon, it will cost a lot more to get away this weekend.

According to the Troy Record and AAA, the national average for a gallon of gas is $2.93. As New Yorkers we laugh at that because it's always higher here. In New York state we average $3.07. Last week gas was 5 cents cheaper. This month the price has jumped 17 cents and in the past year, gas prices have gone up 55 cents.

It looks like there is no end in sight. Prices will continue to climb. But we still have to drive to work, and I am not changing my plans for the holiday weekend, so I guess we just have to suck it up.
