It looks as if millions have been secured for upgrades on a Northway exit that will lead to easier access to the Albany International Airport.

When this project is complete, it will be easier for all of us in the Capital Region to get to the Albany International Airport. According to the Daily Gazette, a construction contract has been awarded from the state for fifty million dollars.

There will be a full reconstruction and design of Exit 4 off of the Northway called the Airport Connector. They will construct a new right-hand exit for those coming from the south and a flyover for northbound traffic. These lanes will both exit onto Shaker Road past the Desmond Hotel leading to the airport.

They will also extend the Exit 4 entrance ramp for northbound traffic and give a new direct entrance ramp from Route 155 for southbound traffic. This will give motorists more time to merge. A boundary wall is planned for noise reduction.

The entire project should be complete by the spring of 2020.
