More Snow Or Rain This Winter In NY? See The National Weather Service Wet Forecast
The National Weather Service has revealed the winter temperature and precipitation outlooks for New York.
The last couple of winters in New York state have not been too hard to deal with. Yes, we have had our fair share of snow and colder temperatures Upstate, but for the most part, we did not deal with those elements as much as past winters. What can we expect for winter 2024-25?
It's that time of year when forecasters start revealing predictions for the season ahead. The Famer's Almanac recently revealed its winter forecast, saying it would be a wet and mild season. Does the National Weather Service outlook line up?
National Weather Service Reveals Winter Outlook
While some swear by just the Alamanac forecasts, many will look for common trends among several forecasts as a more accurate prediction for the season ahead. Here is what National Weather Service (NWS) forecasters predict for New York this December, January, and February.
NWS Precipitation Outlook
Let's start with precipitation. For most of Upstate New York, the NWS forecasters predict above-normal probability of precipitation. Translation: our odds of having winter snow, sleet, or rain are above average. But will it be cold enough for that to translate to mostly snow?
NWS Temperature Outlook
On the temperature side, the probability of warmer temps is leaning above average as well. So the odds are it could be milder than normal this winter. If you were playing the odds, you would most likely bet on more sleet, freezing rain, or just rain than snow this winter. Especially based on the last few years!
With the Farmer's Almanac outlook, that is now 2 winter forecasts calling for a wet and more mild winter. That said, these are just predictions and odds at this point, Even during a mild winter everything could align to still have some big snow! Ultimately, New Yorkers will have to wait and see what develops.
