Money Raised For Troy Homicide Victims Will Not Go Towards Funeral Costs
A week after a Go Fund Me account was set up for funeral costs for the victims of the Troy quadruple homicide, now it will not go toward funeral costs. It will now be going to a family member to help him heal. The Go Fund Me account set up by the director of human resources at the Troy Boys and Girls Club totaled more than $45,000 as of Tuesday afternoon. The page was set up to help pay burial costs for the victims, but an anonymous donor stepped up to pay those expenses. Now the money will help the surviving child of one of the victims.
Shanta Myers, the 36-year-old mother of the two young children who were also murdered, had an older son who is a 10th grader at Troy High School. Isaiah Smith has been living with his Aunt and now the money in the Go Fund Me account will help him receive professional support, living expenses and money to help him go to college.
The outpouring of community support has been helpful for the family, friends and those who knew the family. 11-year-old Jeremiah, better known as "JJ" was an active member of the Troy Boys and Girls Club. The organization said that the anonymous donation for the funeral expenses will help them all heal.
