November 12th is a day that'll stay with many in the Capital Region.

Gun shots rang out at Crossgates Mall in front of the Apple store. People ran down the halls, hid in stores, held their loved ones and thought this might be the last chance to send an "I love you," text to family. It was something we had experienced on the news but never expected to have happen here, locally.

Tasheem Maeweather was sentenced with the maximum sentence of nine-years for violating his probation, in which a need for "protection of the public."

Albany County Judge Peter Lynch could have given Maeweather a sentence that didn't include jail time at all. In fact, what sealed the deal for the judge was the testimony from State Trooper Ian DioGiovine in which he stated watching a group of guys led by Maeweather approach another group, a man punched him which caused him to then draw a gun and shoot twice in the mans direction. Wearing a GPS monitor due to his probation, Maeweather violated the terms of his probation by smoking marijuana, leaving the jurisdiction of Albany County and being accused of a new crime, the judge ruled after a hearing which sealed his fate.

He has since plead not guilty to charges of attempted second-degree murder, attempted assault, felony weapon possession and reckless endangerment.

Maeweather is being held at the Albany County Jail.
