There is a school district in the Capital Region that will have students staying a little longer each day next school year. This will affect all students grades K through 12. The 2018-2019 school year in the Cohoes City School District will be extended. According to News 10 ABC, Cohoes school leaders and teachers agreed to lengthen the school day when they agreed to their new contract.

The elementary school will be extended thirty five additional minutes with the extra time aimed at science and social studies. Middle and high school students will add twenty more minutes and those minutes will be added throughout the day.

This is the first time in fifty years that Cohoes has adjusted their school day. The teachers will receive a two percent increase in their yearly salaries to be compensated for the longer school day.
