Bad News for the Buffalo Bills’ Playoff Chances
The Buffalo Bills could be either on the road or at home in the wild card of the NFL playoffs.
That all depends on what happens this upcoming weekend.
The Bills play at the Miami Dolphins on Sunday Night Football. Whoever wins this game will win the AFC East; if the Bills win it'll be their fourth straight division crown.
The Dolphins' playoff spot is assured. They win, they are the number 2 seed in the AFC. If they lose, they will travel to Kansas City to play the Chiefs as the number 6 seed.
As for Buffalo, they can be the 2, 6 or 7 seed...but they can also miss the postseason entirely if the planets align just right, which is not as farfetched as people think.
The Bills assure a playoff spot if they beat the Dolphins, but if they should lose, they then need either the Pittsburgh Steelers or Jacksonville Jaguars to lose.
The Jaguars play the Tennessee Titans, who are out of playoff contention and playing for pride. The Steelers play the Baltimore Ravens and unfortunately for Bills fans, it looks like starters will rest for the Ravens.
Ravens head coach John Harbaugh announced that Lamar Jackson will sit and backup quarterback Tyler Huntley will start vs. the Steelers this Saturday.
This presumes that Baltimore will also rest other starters vs. Pittsburgh.
Huntley does have experience. He's won games for the Ravens and has played in two playoff games. The 2020 AFC Divisional round vs. the Bills, when he came into the game against the Bills. He also started last year's wild card game vs. the Cincinnati Bengals and almost won that game.
Still, Bills fans would rather have MVP frontrunner Lamar Jackson play vs. the Steelers. Simply put, the Bills have to win on Sunday night.
