So I anticipate feedback on this, so stop doing this and figure it out! If you don't do this, thank you!

Let me paint the picture: we had a decent amount of snow and some ice from yesterday's storm. Cool -- that alone isn't upsetting. I would even say I like the snow; it can look quite serene and majestic. You want to know where it doesn't look serene and majestic? In the road. Now, I don't mean an un-plowed road. I mean when people shovel their snow into the road- into oncoming traffic.

I was driving down Oakwood Ave in Troy this afternoon by St. Mary's Hospital when a man decided to start chucking not just the snow, but also the ice into the street. It's a fairly busy street. This man had a yard. Throw the snow onto the already-covered lawn that you more than likely aren't going to shovel anyway!! It actually is illegal to shovel your snow into the street.

Here is another scenario. Alright, what will happen when the plows come by? He will just plow your car in with the snow from your sidewalk. No, that won't happen here, SEEING AS THE STORM IS OVER!!! So instead, John Doe made my car fishtail on a busy street to where I could have caused a multi-car accident.

Here is the cut and short of the law as stated on the New York Senate website regarding traffic laws,

§ 1219. Putting glass or other injurious substances on highway prohibited. (a) No person shall throw or deposit upon any highway any glass bottle, glass, nails, tacks, wire, cans, snow or any other substance likely to injure any person, animal, or vehicle upon such highway.

(b) Any person who drops, or permits to be dropped or thrown, upon any highway any destructive or injurious material or any material which interferes with the safe use of the highway shall immediately remove the same or cause it to be removed

Now that would also include snow. Seeing as making a clear road snow-covered could cause a car going the normal speed to wreck. Next time, sir, I will get out of my car and force you to shovel it back. If not, then the police will give you a cute little fine written on luxurious receipt paper.

Also, to people with snow blowers: aim your chute away from the road please.

Do you do this? If you do, do you know that it's illegal?
