No industry has been feeling the effects of the pandemic quite like the tourism and hospitality industry. Now there are grants set up to help those who have been affected. Here's how you can apply and receive up to five thousand dollars in grants from Albany County.

In order to apply for the grants, eligible applicants must show how many overnight hotel stays their project will bring to Albany County. These grants are designed to fund programs to build up and help sustain tourism, attractions, and events in the Capital Region. According to News 10 ABC, Discover Albany's annual grant program called the Michele L. Vennard Hospitality Grant Program is funded by the Community Foundation for the Greater Capital Region. The grants range in funding from one thousand to five thousand dollars.

It's hard to believe but just a year ago we were gearing up for March Madness NCAA basketball at the Times Union Center. When that was canceled because of the pandemic, that was just the tip of the iceberg of what we were in for. Think of all of the hotel rooms canceled and the money lost on tourism in Albany alone. That snowballed into no concerts or sporting events leaving the hotel and restaurant industry to suffer.
