When I was in school, we relied on the reduced or free lunch program and over one third of capital region children rely on it too. Now that school is out, a lot of kids and their families go without in the summer. Well you can help. The food pantries in the Capital Region are asking for your help to stock their shelves with healthy foods for families in the summer. There are many ways that you can participate and they have made it really easy to get involved.

The easiest way is to go to their website and click on the donation button. Every dollar donated can equal 6.25 pounds of food for a neighbor in need. You can also host a School's Out For Summer Food and Fund Drive. The Food Pantries for the Capital District will also be at the Thursday Alive at 5 summer concerts in downtown Albany on July 13th, 20th, 27th and August 3rd. (On Thursday July 20th, 107.7 WGNA welcomes country artist Lindsay El.)

The Food Pantries of the Capital District is a coalition of 61 food pantries in Albany, Rensselaer, Saratoga, and Schenectady Counties. They provide funding, delivery, coordination of services and food drives, and education and training to the member food pantries. Membership and all services are free to member food pantries.

Please help feed the children and families of the Capital Region this summer.
