Last night was a big game for former Shen standout and Clifton Park native Kevin Heurter, but not for the reasons many might think.

The star guard - who starts and plays big minutes for the NBA's  Atlanta Hawks - always seems to get up for big games and was looking forward to his return visit to Madison Square Garden last night to take on the Knicks in his home state.   And as he normally does, Huerter delivered.  He had 14 points to go along with 8 rebounds and 4 assists in a game won by the Hawks 117-111.

And while the game was important in the standings for Heuter and the Hawks in terms of playoff positioning, it became even more significant for Heurter who revealed on his Instagram page following the win that he had an angel on his shoulder for this one, sharing news with fans about the recent passing of his Nana.

We're big fans of Kevin, and root for him every chance we get and all of us here at WGNA send our deepest condolences to the Huerter family on the passing of their matriarch.

At the time we published this story, no other information had been released in regards to funeral arrangements, or details of her passing.

Kevin Huerter, a 2016 Shen grad played college ball for two years at the University of Maryland before making himself elgible for the 2018 NBA draft.

Huerter, selected by the Hawks with the 18th pick in the draft, recentnly gave the former Shen standout a well-deserved and whopping pay raise, signing the star to a 4-year deal reportedly worth $65M dollars.
