Stealing Gold

Gold theft is one of those things that went the way of the Dodo. It just doesn't happen anymore. Well at least, not much anymore. On Thursday, April 30th, the Saratoga County Sheriff's Department received an inactive larceny complaint, so they went to investigate.

It was revealed that 64-year-old David J. Peters of Stillwater, NY had completed two instances of theft on the same property, stealing Gold coins from the residence.

The Aftermath

it was determined that Peters had started this theft in March of 2023, when he stole approximately $27,000 worth of Gold Coins from a safe inside the house. He just couldn't help himself though, so he went back. In January of 2026, he returned to the same address and made out with approximately $9,400 worth of gold coins.

Peters was arrested and charged with two counts of Grand Larceny in the 3rd Degree. He is currently awaiting trial in the Saratoga County Jail, facing a maximum of up to 14 years in prison.

This just raises the question: who on earth keeps tens of thousands of dollars of gold coins in their home? Did Blackbeard make his way north after all of his plundering and pillaging??
