Foul Play Suspected In Deadly Albany Fire
Arson is a very serious crime. The destruction of property through fire is incredibly dangerous and sometimes life-threatening.
When lives are lost due to the carelessness of fire, eyebrows can be raised, and that's exactly what's happening in the Capital Region in the wake of a horrific tragedy.
Deadly Fire in Albany
On the morning of Monday, October 6th, Albany Fire and Police responded to a call at Twiller Street after reports indicated that a fire had broken out. When at the scene, officers saw a home completely engulfed in flames, and soon realized that there were people trapped inside.
Albany Firefighters made an attempt to save the victims, unfortunately falling short. Five were pronounced dead. The victims were 52 year old Erick DeCamp, 47 year old Eric Peterson, and three young children aged three, four, and six. The fire also damaged the two neighboring residencies, though those were unoccupied.
Suspicion Grows
On Tuesday, October 21st, Albany Police released a statement on the tragedy, stating that the fire was "suspicious in nature" after conducting a preliminary investigation. No other information was given, and no arrests have been made.
Obviously, the internet took this and ran with it, coming up with theories in the comments of the post as to what happened. Some blame the children's mother, others believe the whole story is blown out of proportion. It's important to remember, however, that no new information has been given, and speculation of this type can destroy reputations if that suspicion is, in fact, unfounded.
