50,000 people will make their way to the Saratoga Race Course tomorrow for the 149th running of the 1.25 million dollar Travers Stakes.  Having a successful Travers Day isn't just about making the right bet.  It's about the finding the right food, managing the large crowd, conveniently getting around town, and of course, winning a few bucks wouldn't be so bad either.  Here are a couple of handy tips to help you navigate your way around the course, the city, and the million dollar race.

  • Uber everywhere if you can.  Parking will be plentiful, but will be quite expensive Sure they'll be some jacked up rates to Uber your way around, but most of that surge will be in the 'peak hours' from 9pm-2am. Meet your friends at a parking area in Clifton Park or Ballston Spa, and Uber on up to Toga.
  • Download a few apps.  Nyra at the Track Horse Racing and Nyra Bets are 2 of my favorites.  Nyra Bets saves you time by being able to place a wager on your phone, as opposed to waiting in long lines. Nyra at the Track allows you purchase tickets, view food options and make reservations, and pre-order certain food and concessions.  You can even request Uber pick-up with this handy app.
  • The Travers will feature a filly horse (only female racing against the males) that 1/2 of racing fans will be rooting for.  Her name is Wonder Gadot.  She'll be largely over bet due to popularity and sentiments but more than likely she's not going to win, so save your money!  Oh btw, you'll hear her name pronounced at least half a dozen ways.  Pick your favorite way to say it, and stick with it.  After trying to get the correct pronunciation from Nyra offials, handicapping experts, and a little old lady near Hatties Chicken Shack, I've come to the conclusion that NOBODY knows!
  • Speaking of Hatties, you gotta try their chicken.

Good luck, have fun and welcome to the best day of racing in all of New York and perhaps the country!
