The New York State Department of Transportation warns that expended high winds could cause power outages. The power outages could affect traffic lights, making intersections dangerous.

The DOT has sent out a press release asking everyone to remember that in the case of power outages at traffic lights, the intersection should be treated as all-way stops.

In the event a traffic signal is malfunctioning or completely out of service due to a power outage, motorists should come to a complete stop and then take turns proceeding through the intersection

Also included in the press release is that the DOT will be working with local power companies to get traffic signals back online by assigning signal crews to make sure traffic lights come back online as quickly as possible.
