Critical Need For Blood Donors in New York-Here’s How You Can Save Lives
The American Red Cross of Northeastern New York is urging people to roll up their sleeves now, as the blood supply is critically low. It is already making it harder for hospitals to keep up with everyday needs like surgeries, cancer treatments, and emergencies.
A rough flu season and weeks of winter storms are a big part of the problem. In December alone, approximately 400 blood drives had to be delayed or canceled due to inclement weather across New York State. More freezing temperatures are ahead, which could mean even more lost donations at a time when the shelves are already running low.
If you have ever thought about giving blood, this is one of those moments when it truly matters. Making an appointment is simple. You can use the Blood Donor app, visit the Red Cross website, or call 1-800-Red Cross. All blood types are welcome, but the need is especially urgent for type O and for A negative and B negative.

To encourage people to come in, the Red Cross has teamed up with the NFL again this year. Anyone who donates through January 25th is entered for a chance to win a trip for two to Super Bowl LX in the San Francisco Bay Area, including tickets, travel, hotel, and spending money.
Donors who come in from January 26th through February 28th will receive a 20 dollar electronic gift card of their choice.
If you are healthy and able, your donation could help save a life this week.
