Earlier this year the online retail giant announced they would be taking bids for locations for their new corporate headquarters.

Amazon is currently seeking out a location for it's 'HQ2' facility, and according to Albany Business Review (ABR), Rensselaer will be in the mix! The deadline for bids is this Thursday, and the article says local officials will be putting a plan together for a location on the Hudson Riverfront across from downtown Albany. If Rensselaer were to land the new corporate headquarters, ABR says it would mean a $5 billion development project over 10 to 15 years and 50,000 new jobs in the area. Western New York is also being pitched by officials in Rochester and Buffalo.

If Rensselaer were to land this bid, this would be huge for the Capital Region, right? Chances are you shop on Amazon, and the online business just keeps growing. You have to imagine the economic impact of having the new Amazon HQ here would be enormous.

The competition will be tough for this though. ABR says 'Convincing...(Amazon)...to pick Albany over numerous, much bigger metropolitan areas in North America that are competing for the headquarters is a long-shot.' Lets hope for the best!
