A 16-year-old Columbia High School student has been charged with attempted murder after an alleged stabbing incident took place on Friday night.  The student who was stabbed, also a 16-year-old from the same school, is currently recovering at Albany Medical Center.

According to the Times Union, the incident took place on Friday evening around 8 pm in Rensselaer. The two males involved in the stabbing are both from East Greenbush and attend Columbia High School.  Police have not released either of their names.

The TU report states that while the two students did know each other in and out of school, no motive has yet been determined. The suspect was located on Saturday and was charged with felony attempted murder and assault and misdemeanor criminal possession of a weapon.  He's currently being held at the Capital District Juvenile Secure Detention Facility in Albany County.

According to the newspaper, East Greenbush School District Superintendent Jeffrey Simons said on Sunday that he's never "dealt with something like this, this level of violence."

School counselors and social workers will be on hand at the school on Monday for students that have concerns about the incident.
