Chicken Chain Boom Continues With Another New One Coming To Area
Chicken chain restaurants have been popping up all over the Capital Region. Get ready because another one is ready to move in.
According to the Albany Business Review, another new chicken chain is headed to Latham. Hangry Joe’s Hot Chicken and Wings has signed a lease at 650 Troy-Schenectady Road, just west of the Northway and across from Latham Center.
The plaza will also be home to Qahwah House, the area’s first Yemeni coffee shop, with both businesses taking end cap spaces.
Chick-fil-A now has three locations open, with another in progress nearby in Latham Farms. Dave’s Hot Chicken has been expanding, too, with three spots open and a fourth on the way in Niskayuna. Wingstop recently entered the chicken game as well, showing just how popular chicken has become in quick-service dining.
Hangry Joe’s adds to that trend with a menu that includes chicken sandwiches, tenders, chicken and waffles, loaded fries, chicken salad, and mac and cheese. Diners can pick their spice level, but the hottest option is so extreme that it requires signing a waiver.
The chain has more than 100 locations nationwide and is headquartered in Springfield, Virginia. The Latham restaurant will sit just a half mile from the future Chick-fil-A, setting up a little competition right along Troy-Schenectady Road.
The plaza itself was once home to a Dunkin’, a Verizon, and a dental office. Two of the three spaces have been filled, while the middle storefront remains available. The property is owned by RCM Properties LLC of Knoxville, Tennessee, which bought it last year for $1.2 million. Plans show a refreshed facade, though work has yet to begin.
