A few weeks ago, JC Penney filed for bankruptcy and announced that they would start closing stores all across the country. They are closing one hundred fifty-four stores this summer and it looks as if the Capital Region department stores are safe, for now. According to News Channel 13, JC Penney department store has announced the one hundred fifty-four stores they will begin to close throughout the summer. The immediate Capital Region stores will remain open, but the JC Penney in Bennington Square, Vermont will be closing forever.

When JC Penney announced they would be closing stores across the country, they said that there would be a total of one hundred ninety-two stores closing by February 2021. That leaves thirty-eight more JC Penney locations that will shut down. Plus they plan on closing two hundred forty stores by 2022. That means that our stores here in the Capital Region may still be on the chopping block.

There are four JC Penney stores in the immediate Capital Region. They are located in Crossgates Mall in Colonie, Clifton Park Center, Wilton Mall, and Aviation Mall in Queensbury. We can only hope that with each round of closures, our JC Penneys will remain open.

There were seven other JC Penneys that are closing across New York state. The going-out-of-business sales will start on June 12th. These sales could go for sixteen weeks.
