A big congratulations from Big Board Sports and 104.5 The Team to Head Coach Colleen Mullen and the UAlbany Women's basketball team on getting into the NCAA Tournament and winning the America East Tournament.  The Great Danes are a 16 seed and will play 1 seed Louisville on Friday at 6 p.m. on ESPN2.  It is really impressive that they went into Maine, who had beaten them twice during the regular season, and won 56-47.  The players represent their coach and her awesome attitude and it showed on Friday night and is one of the main reasons why they are in the NCAA Tournament.  Here is my quick take on this from the Times Union:

Head coach Colleen Mullen has done an incredible job leading the UAlbany Women’s basketball team to the NCAA tournament. It was a four year plan that had plenty of potholes, but she stayed the course and so did her team. Not only has she recruited at a high level, she has coached at a high level. The plan she put together to beat Maine on Friday was flawless. This is the first of many trips to the NCAA tournament under Mullen.

Michael Johnson Jr and I had a conversation on the UAlbany win and first tournament birth for Colleen Mullen.  Below is our full discussion on this from earlier today.

Coach Mullen was visibly emotional right after the victory, as she should be.  But then that quickly turned to dancing and celebrating with her team.  Only one 16 seed has ever beaten a one seed in the NCAA Women's Tournament.  It will take a lot for the Great Danes to upset the Cardinals, but don't sleep on UAlbany on Friday night.
