Brawl, Stabbing in Scotia, Six Police Departments Called In

Police told CBS 6 the scene was chaotic to begin with as thousands of fireworks watchers were leaving the event in the area of Freedom Park in Scotia Friday night. They received a call about a large fight in the area of James Street and North Ballston Avenue, which is a short walk from the park. 

On their way to the scene police got word the situation had taken a bad turn and that someone was stabbed. They arrived to find one person had been stabbed multiple times. News 10 says the victim was taken to Albany Med and is said to be stable.

The suspect turned out to be a juvenile, who police located quickly hiding in the backyard of a home nearby. He was arrested and charged with two felonies - first degree assault and gang assault. His name isn't being released due to his age.

At least six departments responded to the scene including Scotia Police, Schenectady County Sheriffs, Schenectady City Police, Glenville Police, Saratoga County Sheriffs and the Schenectady County Auxiliary Police.

Police haven't said what started the fight or how many other people may have been involved, but they are continuing to investigate the matter. They ask anyone who may have information to call the Scotia Police at (518) 374-3110 ext. 3267.

The Independence Day fireworks show at Freedom Park in Scotia is an annual tradition that attracts thousands of onlookers every July.
