When most of us were in grade school, the teacher would be in front of everyone in the classroom and take attendance, and now it’s happening to some New York State employees and agencies.

Bosses have been taking attendance of their employees. There’s apparently an issue with chronic tardiness and are using this as a method to crack down on the issue.

Some employees are making complaints about the new system, and this stems further than just in the office. The Public Employees Federation is also involved, since the ‘taking attendance’ issue isn’t in their contracts and members are not required to record attendance with a time keeper, and they do not need to punch a time clock.

Some of the New York State agencies that are mentioned in the article in the Times Union are the Department Of Environmental Conservation, Department Of Labor and workers at the New York State Unemployment Office in Troy.
