Both eastbound and westbound Thruway traffic was stopped this morning due to an accident.State Polices released information this morning that a head-on collision occurred on the New York State Thruway between exits 26 and 25A.

The accident happened just before 6 a.m. this morning stopping traffic on both sides of the highway.  A helicopter was used to transport to Albany Medical Center.

According to State Police, a 39-year-old man from Pennsylvania who was heading east on the Thruway, fell asleep at the wheel.  His car went off the road hitting the guardrail and bouncing back into traffic where he was then hit by a tractor trailer.

The man in the car was flown to Albany Medical Center and is expected to be ok.  The driver of the tractor trailer sustained minor injuries and is also expected to be ok.

Both lanes of the Thruway are once again open.
