A Saratoga County Price Chopper is Closing Next Month
A smaller Price Chopper store will be closing its doors next month. Although it is not one of Price Chopper's larger supermarkets, it did serve a purpose in Saratoga Springs as more of a convenience store for the residents nearby.
The Price Chopper Limited grocery store will officially close on Saturday, April 16th at 6 pm. It isn't your typical Price Chopper. It was a lot smaller and located on the bottom floor of apartment space in downtown Saratoga Springs at 55 Railroad Place.
Why is That Price Chopper Closing?
According to a press release by Price Chopper's VP of public relations and consumer services, Mona Golub, the ten-year lease that was signed in 2012 to help the increase in the residential development by putting a smaller Price Chopper has expired. She went on to say that they built a seventy-thousand square foot Price Chopper SuperCenter and made it into a Market 32 just down the street on Route 50 in 2019. They saw less foot traffic in the apartment location and more at Market 32. She said Price Chopper felt it wasn't necessary to renew the lease.
What Happens to Those Employees?
There were thirty-five employees at the Price Chopper Limited store in Saratoga Springs and they have all been offered similar jobs at another Price Chopper location.
Mona Golub said of the store's closing:
It’s never easy to close a store, and we rarely do, but we have an obligation to make business decisions that support the continued health and growth of the company. We look forward to continuing to welcome customers to our nearby Market 32 store.
