The scientific name is Comet 12P/Pons-Brooks but it got its name Devil Comet because it appears to have horns. Just last year scientists saw explosions of ice and gas on its surface which makes it look even more devilish.

When Can We Get The Best View Of The Devil Comet?

This rare phenomenon will be the brightest on Sunday night April 21st. The reason the Devil Comet will be so bright is because it is very close to the sun about one hundred forty-four million miles away.

Where Should We Look In The Sky On Sunday Night?

Right after the sun sets look to the northwest part of the sky. You must have a clear view of the horizon about an hour after sunset. This should be around 8:45 pm. You will only have a few hours to enjoy this amazing spectacle.

Try Not To Miss It

The Devil Comet only comes around every seventy years or so. It was first observed in 1812 and then 1883. It got closest to the sun in 1954 and it won't be this close again until 2095.

Scientists have had an eye on the Devil Comet for a long time. They have seen it explode with dust and gases and last year it looked like advertised with two horns shooting out of it.

Hopefully, we will get the same awesome view this Sunday night!
